The Police Headquarters replaces the Parker Police Department’s previous home, an existing bank building in the Town’s commercial district. The headquarters is a highly tailored 21st century police department, addressing security requirements, workflows, fleet parking, and technical design requirements while providing a welcoming lobby and community room that reinforces the Town of Parker’s emphasis on customer service.

Responding to the site and security considerations, the L-shaped building has two wings. One houses the administrative, records, investigations and 911 Communication Center and patrol type functions, while the other accommodates the suspect processing, evidence intake, small crime lab and evidence storage. The building’s configuration and street frontage helps screen a motor court designed for a large volume of staff and fleet vehicles. The administrative wing is anchored by a welcoming public lobby with windows which frame dramatic Front Range views from Pikes Peak to Longs Peak. A tall light monitor, runs the entire length of the building, bringing daylight into the central spaces during the day and illuminating the building at night.

The Headquarters is designed to have an inviting, civic, light-filled presence while still providing a safe, durable, secure environment. Design features such as lighter, transparent materials address the police department’s desire to allow the building to feel open and inviting, while the placement of glazing at higher locations within the building, such as clerestory windows and light monitors, maximize daylight while maintaining security requirements. The street- facing portion of the building is comprised of a soft and hard landscape that frames a public plaza while providing building security and vehicle restraint.
