Northeastern Junior College | Blue Spruce Hall

  • $5.2M
  • 30,000 GSF
  • 2011
  • LEED Gold

Blue Spruce Hall at Northeastern Junior College is the first new building to be built on the campus in nearly ten years, and is an exciting addition to NJC and the Sterling community.

The building provides a gateway marker for entry to the campus from the highway, and is situated along a new pedestrian promenade that connects the two halves of campus. The two-story public lounge area is an activated, highly visible element as students move through campus, and connects the Promenade to the new courtyard shared with the adjacent Dowis Hall.
The goal of the unit type design was to achieve community through shared spaces, including the bath facilities. The program includes 124 beds in double rooms with multiple group bathrooms located on each floor.

The College pursued the environmental sustainability goal of a LEED Gold certification for the project, and hopes to use the environmental installations as a demonstration of the campus’ commitment to sustainable practices, and as a learning tool for the students.
