The South Terminal Redevelopment Program at Denver International Airport creates an on-site hotel and a Public Transit Center that will accommodate a rail line connecting DIA with downtown Denver’s Union Station beginning in April 2016. The soaring form of the glassy hotel sits atop a grounded podium form that supports a gracious public plaza connected to the tent-roofed Great Hall of the Jeppesen Terminal. Dramatic glazed grid-shell canopies accent the design and shelter plaza visitors and train passengers. Within the podium, passengers will be able to check bags as they get off the train or pass through new airport security checkpoint stations. The podium also includes a new bus center and ballroom and meeting room spaces to support hotel conference activities. Completed in 2015, the 519-room hotel carries the Westin banner. Flanked by new restaurant spaces, the public plaza will be available for community programming and events, and major new public art installations are integrated throughout the project.
