The University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus (CU AMC) is undertaking a significant, long-term strategic initiative in the Anschutz Health Sciences Building. To become a leader in the Rocky Mountain West—and a national destination—for the delivery of genomics-driven translational research, education, and personalized clinical care, an extraordinary investment in the creation of a unique home for this work is taking shape. The new building will provide the university with a programmatic and physical health sciences “hub” of interdisciplinary and inter-professional instruction, learning, discover and knowledge application. The expanded program will integrate academic, research, clinical care and auxiliary functions, into one building within the campus research zone and in close proximity to the University of Colorado Hospital (UCHealth) and the Children’s Hospital Colorado.

The new mixed-use facility will be a significant step towards eliminating the “silos” that reside on the campus. Many of the proposed occupants are currently stand-alone university units that will merge or co-locate space to achieve needed proximity and promote greater collaboration. The building and site organization and design will encourage collaboration and eliminate perceived physical barriers: large, open and light-filled interconnected spaces will visually and physically link internal floors. Included in the new facility is the Colorado Clinical & Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI), an academic home supporting translational research and training efforts at CU AMC, with a mission of improving health and reduce health disparities in the state of Colorado by accelerating the translation of discoveries into prevention and treatments through the provision of infrastructure and resources, including research nursing, nutrition, informatics, statistics, regulatory and compliance support, and core laboratory services, including exercise training and testing.
